Flying WestJet
On my recent vacation, I flew WestJet both ways between Montreal and Halifax. It had been a while since I didn’t use Air Canada (or more recently Porter) and I was struck by the unique customer service of WestJet. During every single announcement over the p.a., the flight attendants made unexpected asides and cracked jokes while delivering the necessary safety information. Slipping the...

“Ce qui n’est pas donnĂ© est perdu”
– written on a wall in Little Italy that I passed on my way home (the original quote from Jesuit missionary, Pierre Ceyrac starts “Tout ce qui…”) All that is not given is lost.

To Montreal in good health
I got back from Halifax this afternoon after a busy morning of squeezing in all kinds of errands and last minute coffee visits and goodbyes. Signing contracts, writing contracts, looking over contracts… My mom must think I’ve got a real job.

Giving your first name
Last night, I was introduced to a fairly well-known young actor around Halifax. I recognized the guy from different places and from the friend we have in common showing me clips of his work. We’d never met before. My friend made the introduction, “This is Tessa…” and we shook hands and the guy said something like, “And now we’ve officially met.” What...

If you’re willing to follow along, this is a really interesting lecture by Dr. Albert A. Bartlett on how the exponential function can explain the world energy crisis. Seriously. Really really good.
