1950s jello mold recipes like this one for Ring-Around-the-Tuna (that’s a salad set in jello acting as the dish for a tuna salad) were my inspiration for the potluck at Sarah’s “Old Hollywood Glamour” party. (see also: jello shrimp ring)
We decided to go sweet instead of savory and put strawberries and marshmallows in strawberry banana jello, but it never set! Luckily, I also made cut up veggie hotdogs with pickled onions on toothpicks, so we just brought those. I think they still satisfied the kitschy hors d’oeuvre requirement.
Some other great dishes at the potluck were: veggie meatballs, fake crab on rice crackers, tomato and mint on mozzarella, goat cheese-stuffed mushrooms, and mini samosas.
