Polaroid Lives! | GOOD ›

(via hydeordie, noahkalina)

Ok, first of all YAWN. As if anyone saw them discontinuing Polaroid film and then watched its popularity mirror its rarity for a new generation of analog fetishists (see: Poladroid) and thought, “Boy, it’s really a shame they’ll never make Polaroid film again because now there’s this huge market and it just keeps growing the longer it’s gone. If only they’d make it again then we’d all be happy and buy so much film! Oh well, too bad.”

We’re talking about capitalism. Someone was going to cash in on this.

Secondly, it was never particularly hard to find Polaroid film after it was discontinued.

“[Polaroid] got out of the instant film business in early 2008, and said it had enough deadstock instant film to last through 2009, but wouldn’t produce any more after that.” - GOOD

…until 2010 when The Impossible Project would ensure that there is no gap whatsoever in the availability of Polaroid stock.

And then:

“The Impossible mission is NOT to re-build Polaroid Integral film but (with the help of strategic partners) to develop a new product with new characteristics, consisting of new optimised components, produced with a streamlined modern setup. An innovative and fresh analog material, sold under a new brand name that perfectly will match the global re-positioning of Integral Films.” - The Impossible Project

What?

“New! But old! Yet new! Still old!”

Ugh. Will I be able to take instant pictures on my Polaroid camera? If yes, YAWN! If no, NEXT!

Finally:

“[T]he revived Polaroid brand will start churning out new cameras soon, as well as other Polaroid-related technology like Pogo printers, which allow you to print Polaroid-esque photos directly from any digital camera. Expect a nostalgia-infused advertising campaign shortly.” - GOOD

The entire internet for the last year has been a “nostalgia-infused advertising campaign” for Polaroid and other whimsically outdated photo styles. I don’t think we can handle a full-on corporate-backed Polaroid revival. Time will fold in on itself and the internet will swallow all of existence.

Sorry guys, I’m probably being too cynical. I also need better outlets for my anger. But really: “Polaroid” “back” “again”?! YAWWWWWWN*.

*I’m happy it’ll be around though.
